Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) was formed in 1976 to make students more aware of the health care industry and encourage them to do well in the field. It is endorsed by the United States Department of Education as an efficient organization to promote and educate about health careers. Today, with over 120,000 members, HOSA continues to strive in creating excellent health care workers in a changing world.
Some activities the organization participates in are:
  • Volunteering one day a month at the local nursing home doing activities with the elderly
  • Working with the Adult Day Care Center
  • Collecting items and money to contribute to the non-profit organization, the Galilean Home, which houses the terminally handicapped
  • Participating in entertaining young children in the Unite to Read program at the local primary and intermediate schools
  • Working with the American Red Cross to do an annual blood drive
  • Focusing on an exclusive project each year: this year it is raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)
They also particpate in various health science competitive events at the regional, state, and national conferences each year.
Every year, the Green County Area Technology Center chapter of HOSA choses a motto that reflects the goals of the organization. This year's motto is: "It's in our hearts to keep yours beating". The members of HOSA want people to gain an interest in the club and expose the excitement of the health sciences. HOSA gives students the confidence to compete in events, the ability to be in a team, and the skills for empathy with others.
