DECA was formed in 1946 as an organization to unite those looking to be in the marketing, finance, and management fields. Today, it is comprised of over 185,000 members across the nation. The Green County Area Technology Center chapter of DECA has recently be reopened after many years hiatus.
The Green County Area Technolgy Center DECA organization is getting involved with the national service project this year called "Buy a Shamrock". It takes place in the month of March and the proceeds go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Available for purchase are green shamrocks at one dollar each and gold shamrocks at five dollars each to give as a gift to your friends on St. Patrick's Day. Sales will begin the first week of March.
DECA participates in conferences in competitive events at the region, state, and national level. The Green County Area Technology Center organization goes to region at Eastern Kentucky Unversity, and state at the Louisville Galt House. Nationals take place in Salt Lake City, Utah. The organization also houses workshops throughout the year for business career and leadership development.
DECA provides students with the opportunity to interact with others across the state and nation. It enhances knowledge in business concepts and give students the incentive to work hard and compete. DECA's slogan is "Aspire Higher", showing the main goal of the organization.
